Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about therapy, scheduling, fees, insurance, and working together.
Starting therapy is an important decision, and it's natural to have questions. Below you'll find answers to some of the questions I hear most often. If you don't see your question here, you're always welcome to reach out. I'm happy to answer your questions during your free consultation.
Getting Started
-
Yes. I offer a free 15-minute consultation to discuss what's bringing you to therapy, answer your questions, and determine whether working together feels like the right fit.
-
You don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Many people contact me because something doesn't feel quite right, even if they can't fully explain why. Whether you're struggling with body image, your relationship with food, anxiety, perfectionism, or a major life transition, therapy offers a place to explore what you're experiencing and decide what kind of support would be most helpful.
-
You don't need to decide before reaching out. During your consultation, we'll talk about what you're experiencing, your goals, and the type of support you're looking for. Together, we'll determine the approach that best fits your needs.
-
Your first session is an opportunity for me to get to know you and better understand what's been bringing you to therapy. We'll talk about your experiences, concerns, and goals as we begin to create a plan that reflects your unique needs.
-
Many clients begin with weekly sessions to build consistency and momentum. As therapy progresses, we'll regularly check in together and adjust the frequency based on your goals, progress, and what feels most supportive.
-
Most therapy sessions are approximately 50-55 minutes.
-
Every person's experience is different. Some clients come to therapy to work through a specific concern, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll regularly revisit your goals and make decisions together about what feels most helpful as therapy progresses.

Sessions are held through a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform that protects your privacy and confidentiality. Before your first appointment, you'll receive everything you need to join your session.
-
You'll need a reliable internet connection, a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone, and a private space where you feel comfortable talking without interruptions.
-
I provide virtual therapy for clients located anywhere in Oregon or Colorado. Because of licensing requirements, you must be physically located in one of those states at the time of your session.
-
If you're traveling within Oregon or Colorado, we can usually continue with your scheduled session. If you'll be outside those states, we'll discuss whether we can meet or whether it's best to reschedule based on licensing regulations.

If you don't see your insurance listed, you may still be able to use your out-of-network benefits. I partner with Thrizer to make the reimbursement process easier for many clients.
-
Thrizer is a service that simplifies using your out-of-network insurance benefits. Instead of paying the full session fee and waiting weeks for reimbursement, eligible clients may be able to pay only their estimated portion for each session. Thrizer then submits claims to your insurance company on your behalf. Check out the Thrizer Calculator here.
-
If you're not using one of my in-network insurance plans, you can use the Thrizer Benefits Calculator below to check your out-of-network mental health benefits and estimate your reimbursement before scheduling your first appointment.

Yes. If you prefer not to use Thrizer, I'm happy to provide a superbill that you can submit directly to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Because every insurance plan is different, I recommend contacting your insurance provider to learn more about your out-of-network mental health benefits.
