Meet the Therapist: Why I Started Riding Waves Counseling

Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and the founder of Riding Waves Counseling. I created this practice to offer a space where you can come home to yourself — your body, your values, your story — especially if that’s felt out of reach in traditional therapy spaces.

Why Riding Waves”?

Healing isn’t linear. It comes in waves; just like grief, growth, and self-trust. Some days feel calm and clear. Others pull you under. The work isn’t about controlling the tide; it’s about learning to stay with yourself through it.

That’s what I hope to offer: a place where you can ride those waves without judgment, and with the support you deserve.

Who I Work With

I specialize in working with:

  • People healing from eating disorders and disordered eating, especially those who haven’t felt seen in weight-centric or traditional recovery spaces

  • Folks struggling with body image and weight stigma, including those in larger bodies

  • Women and gender-expansive people in midlife, navigating perimenopause, menopause, or identity shifts

  • Pregnant, postpartum, and new parents, feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or unsure who they are now

  • People exploring embodiment and self-trust in therapy

I center care that is:

  • Fat-positive

  • LGBTQ+ affirming

  • Health at Every Size® (HAES®) aligned

  • Rooted in Body Trust® principles

  • Trauma-informed and social justice-oriented

Why I Do This Work

Because I’ve seen how painful it is to feel at war with your body.
Because I’ve lived the disconnection that comes from trying to fit into spaces that weren’t built for me.
Because healing is political and deeply personal.
Because midlife is not a crisis, but a powerful threshold.
Because you don’t have to earn softness, rest, or belonging.

And because you deserve therapy that affirms all of who you are.

A Bit More About Me

I’ve been practicing since 2012 and bring years of experience working in both outpatient settings and higher levels of care (IOP and PHP) for eating disorder treatment. I integrate modalities like DBT, CBT, somatic therapy, narrative therapy, and feminist approaches — all tailored to your unique needs.

My life in a fat body and within the LGBTQ+ community has shown me that healing is not one-size-fits-all. It’s deeply shaped by where we’ve been, who we are, and what the world reflects back to us—especially when we live at the margins.  My practice is shaped by lived experience, clinical training, and a deep belief in your capacity to heal.
